How is Zola Açaí Superfruit Juice different from other Açaí drinks?

Several things make Zola different from other brands of Açaí juice.  First, Zola uses 100% organic Açaí pulp which is what provides the abundance of nutrients and exceptionally great taste of Zola, other juices have to be fortified because they lack the desired nutrients.  And Zola Açaí is the best tasting superfruit juice on the planet! Additionally, Zola uses an authentic Brazilian recipe that includes organic guaraná seed for a natural energy boost.  Finally, Zola can be stored for 12 months without refrigeration, which makes it especially convenient.

How is Zola’s Açaí different from other Açaí?

The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture grades açaí as follows: açaí “popular” (lower grade) must contain at least 8% pulp, açaí “medio” (middle grade) at least 11% pulp, and açaí “especial” (special grade) a minimum of 14% pulp. Zola Açaí uses the highest grade “açaí especial” in all of its products. And, as many nutrients of açaí come from the pulp – the higher the pulp % the açaí is, the more nutrition it offers.

How does Zola Açaí Superfruit Juice provide sustained energy?

Zola uses organic whole Guaraná seed powder, a natural source of caffeine.  Guaraná is a seed from the Amazon that contains fat-soluble oils (they do not dissolve in water) which release their latent energy slowly, allowing your body to process them over time.  Other “energy drinks” use a chemically processed, water-soluble Guaraná extract which causes your body to get a quick rush and then crash and burn.

Does Zola Açaí Berry Superfruit Juice contain caffeine?

Yes, each serving contains 24mg of naturally occurring caffeine from organic Guaraná seed, about half the amount in a cup of green tea. In comparison, an 8 oz serving of Soda, 25-50mg; Coffee, 45-100mg;  and Black Tea, 40mg.  Zola’s slow-releasing, fat-soluble caffeine produces sustained energy, not the crash and burn associated with energy drinks and other caffeinated beverages.

How much sugar does Zola Açaí Berry Superfruit Juice have compared to other fruit drinks?

Zola has 25% less sugar than most apple or orange juices.  Zola’s glycemic index is low (lower is better) because it has a balanced nutritional profile of proteins, healthy fats and carbohydrates.  Most other juices have higher glycemic indexes.  Zola’s natural sugar comes from the Açaí berry’s natural fructose (fruit sugar), plus just a bit of certified organic cane juice.

Why is evaporated organic cane juice added?

Unsweetened Açaí is very earthy and bitter.  A pinch of evaporated organic cane juice helps to bring out the berry’s full flavor.

Why does Zola Açaí Berry Superfruit Juice contain fat?

Zola Açaí contains Healthy Omega Fatty Acids, the same good-for-you fats found in olive oil, flaxseeds, nuts, and fish.  Nutritionists believe Omega Fatty Acids help protect the heart, lower cholesterol and blood pressure, improve depression, and fight cancer.

What are the “flecks of gold” in the juice?

As with all fruits and vegetables, Açaí has some variability. Some batches of Açaí have more Omega Fatty Acids than others. At times, those fats can come together in the drink and look like little “flecks of gold”. This is normal. It simply means you are getting an extra dose of the heart healthy Omegas!

How does Zola process its Açaí berries to ensure freshness?

Açaí berries are processed into pulp in order to stabilize the highly perishable fruit and retain the nutrients.  Zola uses a special technology to create a concentrate that locks in the freshness, taste, and nutrition.  The concentrate is shipped to the U.S. where it is packaged into single serve bottles through an aseptic process – the highest quality process for this type of juice.

Are Zola Brazilian Superfruit Juices and Smoothies pasteurized?

Yes, for consumer safety, all of Zola’s facilities follow a strict HAACP plan which includes gentle pasteurization.  Simply put pasteurization adds safety.  Pasteurization kills bad bacteria by heating the product at a specific temperature for a specific time.  Flash pasteurization simply means the product was pasteurized quickly.  Zola uses Aseptic processing and ultra flash pasteurization which takes the product to a high temperature but only keeps it there for 3 seconds.

Are Zola Brazilian Superfruit Juices and Smoothies vegan? Yes, both the Juices and Smoothies are vegan and contain no animal products.

What is caja fruit?

Caja fruit is found in various parts of the Amazon and is often called “Taperebá.” Caja fruit looks like a small mango with smooth skin and a juicy, succulent pulp.  The taste is sweetly acidic and tangy.  Caja fruit is rich in vitamins A, B, & C, beta-carotene, calcium, iron, and phosphorus.

What is cupuaçu?

Cupuaçu (koo-pu-AH-sue) is often called “The Pharmacy of the Amazon.” Local Amazonians have been cultivating and eating Cupuaçu for generations for its delicious taste and powerful nutrition. It is melon-sized with a brown outer shell like a coconut with creamy white pulp inside.  Its taste is often compared to foods like chocolate, banana, and melon.  It is a rich source of polyphenol antioxidants, natural energy, and helps the digestive system.

What is graviola?

Graviola (gra-VEE-oh-lah) is native to most of the warmest regions in South America, including the Amazon Basin and Brazil.  It is a large, green heart-shaped fruit weighing up to 15 lbs., with a spiny outside and off-white colored pulp with large black seeds. Graviola is currently being studied as a powerful all natural healer and is thought to have anti-cancer fighting properties.

What is guaraná?

Guaraná is a fruit grown in the Brazilian Amazon and is a natural source of caffeine.  The Guaraná seed contains fat-soluble oils which release energy slowly for a sustained energy boost.

Does producing Zola put the Amazon rainforest at risk?

No, just the opposite – it preserves it!  Açaí berries grow on the açaí palm tree, the same tree that is cut down to harvest “hearts of palm.” Locals make more money harvesting the açaí berry than they would cutting down the trees for other uses.  The trees are at their highest and best use and the locals make more money which helps protect the trees.

What is Project Zola?

At Zola, social responsibility is a tremendous focus. The company created a unique community program called Project Zola to empower the people in the local communities where Zola’s Brazilian Superfruits are harvested to improve the quality of their lives.  Project Zola generates Financial and Educational support which is directed to the local communities that produce and harvest Zola’s açaí.  Project Zola focuses on Building Community Infrastructure, Improving Quality of Life and Protecting the Environment with specific and tangible goals in a 100% transparent environment.  Zola promotes sales of Amazonian Project Zola Products that are sold with the support of Zola’s retail partners in North America, which not only generates financial support but also creates a sense of pride for the local people. In fact, Zola was able to completely fund Acaimu School (Acaimu School) in 2007 and will continue support such as this in the future.
